🔍 CPU Performance

In this area, there’s one thing that people need to consider and that’s single core and multi core performance. Some apps and games are designed to run on just one CPU core whilst others need multiple CPUs to run. For apps, games and tasks that need just one CPU to run, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 will perform better. However for apps or games that require multiple CPU cores, the Unisoc T8200 will perform better. This one is rather tight and there’s really no clear winner.

Winner: Tie

🎮 GPU, Graphics and Gaming

One complaint of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is its weak Adreno 613 GPU. For an SoC of its class, Qualcomm really should have equipped it with a superior GPU. The Mali G57 MP2 GPU on the other hand is much better than the Adreno 613 and will offer almost double the performance of the Adreno 613. It’s an easy win for the Unisoc T8200.

📊 Benchmarks

On GeekBench 6’s single core test, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is the better with a score of 918 to the T8200’s 762. This can be attributed to the Cortex A78s on the 4 Gen 2. For the multicore test however, the T8200 wins with a score of around 2500 compared to the 2121 on the 4 Gen 2. This is because the efficiency cores of the T8200 are slightly faster than those of the 4 Gen 2.

On AnTuTu 10, the T8200 walks away with an easy win as it finishes with a score of around 470,000 compared to the 427,000 on the 4 Gen 2. A major factor for the loss of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is its weak GPU.

But remember: benchmarks don’t always reflect real-life usage.

⚙️ RAM, Storage & Efficiency

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 supports a much faster LPDDR5 RAM and a modern UFS 3.1. The Unisoc T8200 also supports UFS 3.1 but it supports the older LPDDR4X RAM.

For efficiency and battery consumption, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 should do better as it’s built on a better Samsung 4nm process whilst the Unisoc T8200 is built on a slightly older 6nm TSMC process.

Winner: Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

🎥 Camera and Video

Both processors support up to 108MP cameras and their individual performances would depend on the camera sensor used and the software employes as well. For video however, the Unisoc T8200 delivers an unexpected win. It can handle 4K video at 30fps, while the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 can only do videos of 1080p@60fps. So if you shoot videos regularly, Unisoc is better in this area.

Winner: Unisoc T8200

📶 Connectivity

Both chips support 5G and 4G but the  Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 has the faster network connection and it also gets the edge with better Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 support versus the Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 5 on Unisoc.

Winner: Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

Conclusion

This was a very tight contest between two very competent lower mid-range SoCs. The Unisoc T8200 will be an excellent choice for gamers due to its better GPU and Benchmark scores. It is also a great option for people who record videos as well. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is good for the average user who just wants a phone with very stable performance that would stay cool and last all day on a single charge with fast Internet connectivity.

Either way, both chips are honest options that make sense in the ₦200K–₦300K price range. Buyers just need to be clear on their priorities and what they want.
