MediaTek has just announced their new update to the Dimensity 6000 series. This one is called the MediaTek Dimensity 6300.

As we should all know by now, the MediaTek Dimensity 6000 series are lower mid-range SoCs. The Dimensity 6300 falls smack into this category and should be found on upcoming lower mid-range phones.

MediaTek Dimensity 6300 key specs

The key specifications of the the Dimensity 6300 are:

Specs
CPU cores
  • 2x Cortex-A76 (2.4GHz)
  • 6x Cortex-A55 (2.0GHz)
GPU Mali G57 MP2
Process 6nm TSMC
ISA ARMv8.2-A
Benchmarks AnTuTu 10: 427,000
RAM LPDDR4X
Storage UFS 2.2
ISP MediaTek Imagiq
NPU MediaTek APU
Camera 108MP
Video 1080p@30fps
Network MediaTek 5G Modem, LTE Cat 18, SA & NSA 5G
Bluetooth Bluetooth 5.2
WiFi WiFi 5
Display FHD+ @120Hz

As I was looking at these specs, I realized something. I’ve seen these before! It didn’t take long to find out that this “new” SoC wasn’t new at all. In fact, it is a clone of the Dimensity 810 and the Dimensity 6080, the latter of which we have thoroughly discussed on this channel.

Performance and Gaming

The performance is largely the same as the aforementioned duo. This SoC can handle most apps well and can tackle a lot of native Android titles like eFootball Mobile at mostly mid settings. Users may also attempt top tier performance games like NBA 2K, Fortnite, Grid Auto Sports and Warzone Mobile at low settings. Emulation is also on the table as this SoC should be able to handle anything from the PS2 down.

SoCs within the same performance bracket include:

RAM and Storage

Multitasking and Storage speeds should be fairly standard and straightforward on this one depending on the software and RAM size used. 6GB to 8GB is now my recommendation for a fairly decent Android experience.

Cameras and Video

This SoC can handle cameras of up to 108MP and can record and playback videos of 1080p@30fps. The Dimensity 800 and the 6080 aren’t exactly photography champions and I doubt if the Dimensity 6300 would be any different.

Display and Refresh Rate

This SoC supports 1080p displays and the refresh rate has been bumped up to 120Hz. At least this way, some companies (coughs) claiming 120Hz support on their phones can now stand ground on this matter.

Connectivity

The only new additions to this SoC are a faster 5G modem (up to 3.3Gbps download speeds), Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 5. Everything else remains the same.

Conclusion

To round up, this is another MediaTek rebrand which I believe is not a good way to go for any serious chip company. MediaTek are already the largest mobile chip company in the world so no one can compete with them on that. These SoCs are becoming too many to support.

That’s why OEMs and devs do not even bother to support or update software for their lower end SoCs. I mean older SoCs like the Snapdragon 720G and the Snapdragon 732G from Qualcomm are still getting support from developers but the Helio G95, Helio G96, Dimensity 700, 720, 800 and 820 from the same time period are now obsolete and have all been forgotten.
