Movies of the week #4

Hello and welcome to another episode of Movies of the week #4. In this episode, we’re going to be looking at series that are based on video games.

Video games have (to quote Charlie Brooker) escaped from the pixelated ghetto and have entered the mainstream. Games are no longer exclusively children’s playthings anymore. Games are so much more now.

Other than workout for brains and thumbs, pushing eye-hand coordination to the limit, games are a veritable entertainment platform in their own rights. One way it has been able to do this is by storytelling.

After games dumped the 2D side scroll for the 3D sandbox style, games became a lot more realistic. This helps their storytelling to become more realistic and immersive. Games can and do tell very gripping and compelling stories. Many gamers can attest to the fact that they’ve broken down while holding a controller because the game got them in the feels.

With the comic and superhero genre becoming rather stale, entertainment companies have switched to games.

Let’s look at some very good series that are based on video games. These series are a must see (unless you’ve seen them before). They’re a mix of anime and live action so there’s something for everyone.
