Hello, in today’s post, we’re going to be looking at the Samsung Galaxy A22 vs Tecno Pova 2. This is a battle of the midrangers.
Samsung is a giant of the industry and competes at all levels. Even though they are a name that is firmly associated with quality, their midrange offerings sometimes fall short of that expectation. On the flip side, Tecno are giants of the African market and have quietly been improving their offerings for a while.
So we are going to be comparing two of their lower midrange offerings to see which one is the better option to spend your money on.

Body
Both phones are made of plastic and seem to lack any sort water or dust protection. The A22 weighs 186g.

Performance
Both phones use similar SoCs which are the MediaTek Helio G80 (A22) and the G85 (Pova 2). The Helio G85 is only slightly better that the G80 due to it’s faster GPU.
Both phones use the same LPDDR4x RAM and eMMC 5.1 internal storage. The A22 and the Pova 2 both also run on Android 11 but use different Android skins. The A22 uses Samsung’s One UI core 3.1 while the Pova 2 uses Tecno’s HiOS 7.6.
This will show in benchmarks as both phones are more or less tied at 200,000 (Antutu v8).
Display
The Pova 2 has the bigger display and the sharper resolution while the A22 uses the better and brighter display panel.
This one is down to individual choice. Would you pick an dull LCD with FHD (1080p) resolution or a brighter AMOLED with HD (720p) resolution?
Cameras
Without question, the A22 has the better cameras and camera set up. I would pick a 48MP Samsung GM2 sensor over a generic 48MP anyday. The Pova 2 lacks an ultrawide camera and uses a QVGA sensor! That thing is useless.
The A22 also has the better selfie camera. Both phones record videos of 1080p@30fps. The A22 seems to have image stabilization while the Pova 2 has none.

Batteries
The Pova 2 has the bigger batteries and the faster charge speed. The A22 comes second here.
Connectivity and sensors
Both phones support dual 4G SIMs, wifi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm jacks, NFC, OTG, etc. They also support accelerometers, proximity and light sensors although the Tecno Pova 2 seems to be lacking a Gyroscope.
Price and storage
The A22 has 2 storage variants that sell N106,000 (4/64GB) and N116,000 (4/128GB) respectively while the Tecno Pova 2’s 6/128GB sells for anything between N110,000 to N150,000. All prices are in Nigerian Naira.
Conclusion
Both phones are tied in the areas of body, SoC, and display. The Pova has the better battery while the A22 has the better cameras, OIS and a gyroscope. The onus now falls on you to make your choice. Personally, I’d say go for the A22, battery not withstanding.
