If you’ve been shopping for ultra-budget smartphones lately, you may have stumbled across the Unisoc T7100 listed in the specs sheet. It probably sounded like a fresh new capable chip. Something modern right? Here’s the thing — it’s not new at all.
In fact, the Unisoc Tiger T7100 is what we call a “rebrand job.” Just a new label slapped on an old SoC to keep it moving in 2025. Let’s peel back the label and see what’s really under the hood — and whether it’s worth your money.
What is the Unisoc T7100?
The Unisoc Tiger T7100 is an entry-level processor from Chinese chipmaker Unisoc. It quietly surfaced in early 2025, and was positioned for ultra-affordable smartphones like the Itel A90 and similar devices targeting the low-end market in developing regions.
But here’s the kicker — the Unisoc T7100 isn’t new tech at all. It’s actually a rebranded Unisoc T603, which itself was a rebranded Unisoc SC9863A — a chip from 2018. That’s right, we’re dealing with a seven-year-old SoC in 2025.
Other chips in the same performance tier include:
- Snapdragon 450
- MediaTek Helio A22
- Unisoc T603
- Unisoc SC9863A (original chip)

Specs Breakdown and Analysis
Performance (CPU, GPU, RAM, Storage)
The CPU setup features eight Cortex-A55 cores split into two big.LITTLE setup, but don’t get excited — these are all efficiency cores. There are no performance cores here. The “big” cores run at 1.6GHz, while the “small” ones sits at 1.2GHz. It’s very slow. Period.
In AnTuTu v10, it barely scrapes 119K, which is way below the average in 2025. For context, modern entry-level chips like the Helio G81 or even the Helio G50 offer much better performance.
The PowerVR GPU here is similarly weak. Don’t expect to play anything more demanding than Subway Surfers or Candy Crush. Even UI animations may stutter especially if the phone only has 3GB RAM.
RAM and Storage
It supports LPDDR4X RAM at 1800MHz, which is decent on paper, but eMMC 5.1 is painfully slow in real-world usage. App launches, file transfers, and installs will all take noticeably longer time to execute.
Display Handling
Surprisingly, this SoC supports up to 1080p display at 60Hz and 720p displays at 90Hz. Phones that ship with this chip (like the Itel A90) usually only push 720p displays, and even that struggles with stutters under load. The 90Hz support is real, but very few OEMs use it, and when they do, it’s more for marketing than meaningful smoothness.
Camera and Video
Camera support tops out at 16MP, which is the bare minimum these days. Expect slow shutter speeds, weak dynamic range, and average daylight shots. Anything shot at night is usually a blurry mess. Video maxes out at 1080p @30fps, which is okay for basic clips but nothing more.
There’s no AI processing, no HDR boost, and no multi-frame image stacking like you’d find in even slightly better chips.
Connectivity and Communications
This is where the Tiger T7100 shows its true age. The modem supports 4G LTE (Cat.7) and VoLTE, which is okay. But it lacks support for Wi-Fi 5 (sticks with Wi-Fi 4) and only offers Bluetooth 4.2. No dual-band Wi-Fi either. In 2025, these limitations matter — even cheap phones need to stream, hotspot, and connect to Bluetooth accessories reliably.
Conclusion: Recycled Tech with a New Sticker
The Unisoc Tiger T7100 is not a 2025 processor — it’s a 2018 chip with a fresh label. It’s the same old SC9863A that’s been powering low-end phones for years. Unisoc is just trying to keep old silicon moving, hoping that most people won’t notice.
If you’re buying a phone with the Tiger T7100, manage your expectations. It’s for basic tasks only — calls, texts, WhatsApp, and some Facebook scrolling. Anything more demanding and you’ll be frustrated quickly.
Unless the phone is very cheap (₦80K or less) and you don’t care about speed, you’re better off looking for something with at least:
- Helio G50
- Snapdragon 6S 4G Gen 1
- Helio G81 or G85
- Unisoc T606
The Tiger T7100 isn’t a tiger — it’s a house cat pretending to be a tiger.
