Xiaomi has recently unveiled its latest Xiaomi 14 lineup. The Xiaomi 14 lineup serves as a refresh of their flagship series, formerly known as the MI line. It consists of the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. This lineup succeeds the Xiaomi 13 series, with a potential addition, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, anticipated around late March or early April 2024.

These phones are expected to compete with flagships from other manufacturers. These include phones such as the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, the Apple iPhone 15 series, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

The Xiaomi 14 is designed to be the more affordable option for those who are on a budget. It has an aluminum frame, has IP68 protection, and weighs 193g.

For performance, it boasts the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, featuring an Adreno 750 GPU. This SoC is one of the best in its class, rubbing shoulders with the likes of the Apple A17 Pro and the Dimensity 9300. You are guaranteed world-class performance.

It has gone a 6.36″ TCL QHD LTPO-OLED display. This display can reach up to 3000nits of brightness and 120Hz refresh rate. As a result, it promises a vibrant visual experience. It is equipped with HiRes stereo speakers which are supported by Dolby Atmos Audio.

For photography, this phone uses a triple camera setup which includes a 50MP Omnivision OVX9000 main sensor, a 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 Telephoto, and a 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 Ultrawide camera. In front, there’s a 32MP Omnivision OV3213 selfie camera. It stands out in the photography department. For video, it doesn’t disappoint. The selfie camera can record videos of 4K HDR at 60fps (a first on Xiaomi phones), whilst the rear cameras can record 8K video at 24fps.

Powered by a 5,000mAh battery, it supports 90W fast charge, 50W wireless charge, and 10W reverse charge.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro is the flagship of the lineup. While it shares most of the same specs as its lesser sibling, it also features some enhancements.

For starters, it also uses an aluminum frame but this frame is fused what a titanium alloy. It also shares the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for performance and records videos of 4K HDR at 60fps (selfie), and 8K video at 24fps (rear). Now on to the enhancements.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro has a 6.73″ LTPO-OLED display supplied by TCL. The display offers up to 3000 nits of brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. With HiRes stereo speakers bundled with Dolby Atmos, it aims to provide a superior audio experience.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro does utilize the same triple camera setup as the Xiaomi 14 but introduces some improvements. These improvements are the dual functionality of the 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 for both ultrawide and macro photography and the other 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 for both telephoto and portrait photography.

Finally, the Xiaomi 14 Pro is powered by a 4880mAh battery. This device supports 120W fast charge, 50W wireless charge, and 10W reverse charge.

Pricing

Positioned as a direct competitor to the iPhone 15 series, the Xiaomi 14 lineup impresses not only with its features but also its affordability. The Xiaomi 14 starts at 3999 Yuan (460k NGN/$687) for the 8/256GB variant, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro begins at 4999 Yuan (573k NGN/$858). These prices are very competitive especially when you check out what the competition is charging.
