Let’s do a KZ EDX vs Redmi Airdots 2 comparison.

The KZ EDX is an entry level IEM from Chinese manufacturers K. It is designed to produce rich and heavy bass audio for very affordable prices. You can read more about it here.

The Redmi Airdots 2 are a pair of entry level TWS earbuds from Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi. They are designed to give you decent audio and TWS functionality on a budget.

These two devices occupy the same position on the market and are both entry level. This means that they’re both very affordable but the Redmi Airdots 2 seems to be the more popular option.

Since both devices are entry-level, they only have one 1 big dynamic driver each. You can check out this post for more about dynamic drivers.

Unboxing

The unboxing of the KZ EDX vs Redmi Airdots 2 are very different. The unboxing of the Redmi Airdots 2 is very dull affair. You get the charging case with the Redmi Airdots 2 inside, earbud tip replacement and a user manual. The unboxing of the KZ EDX is a much more premium affair and they should get bonus points for that.

Build quality, looks and design

Both devices look well made with some differences. The Redmi Airdots 2 is made of plastic but boasts of IPX4 water protection for water splashes. The KZ EDX on the other hand is made with resin and quite frankly looks better made and feels a lot more solid.

When compared to the KZ EDX, the Redmi Airdots 2 looks cheaper and fragile. The KZ EDX on the other hand looks better than the unassuming Redmi Airdots 2 and feels more expensive.

Ease of use

The Redmi Airdots 2 by default is the easier device use by virtue of being a TWS earbud. The KZ EDX comes with wires which can be a hassle to use, not to mention that it does restrict mobility.

However, the use of wires does have it’s advantages and you could also turn the KZ EDX into a Bluetooth IEM by adding in a Bluetooth adapter.

Sound and Mic quality

Whilst this is a tad subjective, I found the audio from the KZ EDX to be much louder and richer with a lot more bass when compared to the flat sounds of the Redmi Airdots 2. This is despite the fact that both devices have a single firing dynamic driver on board.

The reason for this difference is because the KZ EDX is better tuned for sound out and it goes directly into the ear canal. The sounds from the KZ EDX is also helped by its sound isolation (or passive noise cancellation) which improves the detail and clarity of the audio output.

The Redmi Airdots 2 also has decent audio as well but it’s rather flat when compared to the KZ EDX.

Price

The KZ EDX retails for around $7.60 while the Redmi Airdots 2 go for $7.49. As you can see, they’re both clearly within the same price range.

Conclusion

I cannot honestly tell you which one is better outrightly in the KZ EDX vs Redmi Airdots 2 comparison.

Your choice is going to be dependent on what you value the most in a listening device. For ease of use and mobility, it’s always going to be the Redmi Airdots 2. For sound fidelity, immersion and experience, it’s the KZ EDX hands down.
