Now don’t get me wrong, the Itel P55 5G is a solid phone for its price. I have said before that it’s one of Itel’s better efforts in recent times. But like every device, it’s not perfect. In fact, there are some things that have gotten on my nerves as I use it. So in this post, I want to share some of the problems with the Itel P55 5G that I’ve noticed—things I feel anyone planning to buy the phone should be aware of. This isn’t a hate piece, it’s just me being honest.

I’ve been using the Itel P55 5G for about 4 months now, and while I initially felt like I’d struck gold, reality has since humbled me. Coming from a Redmi 10C that served me faithfully for over two years, I felt it was time for an upgrade. I needed better hardware, smoother performance, and of course, the mad internet speed that 5G promised on paper. The Itel P55 5G seemed like the right fit—on paper. Now to be fair, hardware-wise, this phone ticks a lot of boxes: 6GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a Dimensity 6080 that handles all my favourite games without breaking a sweat. For a 5G phone, it’s also incredibly affordable. But if we’re being honest, good hardware alone doesn’t make a phone great—especially when the software holding it all together is barely holding on. And that, right there, is where most of my problems with the Itel P55 5G lies.

In this post, I’m going to break down the biggest problems with the Itel P55 5G—from the annoying bugs, missing features, to the radio silence on updates. And while there are still a few things to like (which I’ll cover in a separate post), this one is for the issues that truly grind my gears.

Problems with the Itel P55 5G

So if you’re considering this phone, or you already own it and feel the same, here’s my honest experience with the problems with the Itel P55 5G.

1. Uncooperative Software

I’m used to my phone remembering settings. If I set it to vibrate, I expect it to stay that way until I say otherwise. But on this device? It randomly switches back to just ringing without warning. Same thing with saving pictures to the SD card—every single time I open the camera, I have to go back into settings to tell it where to save. It’s exhausting.

Even the battery life, which should’ve been great thanks to the Dimensity 6080 and a lean OS, feels subpar. Maybe it’s the 5G draining more juice, maybe it’s the software mismanaging resources, or maybe it’s both. Either way, I find myself charging way too often for comfort.

2. Silent Notifications That Are Anything But Silent

This one really gets under my skin. On the Redmi 10C, activating “Do Not Disturb” meant exactly that—no notifications, no disturbances. But on the P55 5G? I still get WhatsApp and Telegram pings, random calls, and pop-ups even with the feature turned on. 

It’s as if the system just smiles, nods and completely ignores your request. You can’t even trust the phone to let you have peace when you need it most. For a feature that should be so simple, Itel completely dropped the ball here.

3. Auto Screen Brightness—Missing in Action

You know how we all take certain basic features for granted? Like automatic screen brightness when you step into sunlight? Yeah, forget that. This phone doesn’t have it.

Every single time I step outside, I have to manually crank up the brightness just to see what’s on my screen. It’s giving 2016 energy in 2025. Another missing gem? The option to prevent new apps from cluttering the home screen after installation. Every app you install appears there by force, and you’ll have to delete them manually. It’s small, yes, but small things pile up fast.

4. No More Updates

I am big on software support. I like knowing my phone is still being looked after. Even the Redmi 10C—an older and less powerful device—got two major Android updates and frequent security patches.

But the Itel P55 5G? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. The last time this phone saw any form of update was back in September 2024. As we speak, it’s April 2025 and Android 13 is still the final bus stop. That’s a shame because the hardware could definitely handle more.

I know that I may be a little biased here because this phone is almost 2 years old. However for a phone this powerful, Itel should have done better. It is like they just pushed the device out into the wild and walked away.

A Bit of Credit Where It’s Due

Now, just before I wrap this up, I’ll admit: this phone isn’t all bad. There are a few thoughtful features here and there—like the overcharging protection that stops your phone from cooking overnight, or the health tracker that sneaks into your routine. These are great. And I’ll definitely touch on the good stuff in my next post.

But for now, this post is about the problems with the Itel P55 5G, and sadly, there are more than enough to go around. It is a phone that has great hardware and it’s very affordable. However it is not perfect, it has its flaws and you should know that.
