Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: What You Need to Know

Three days ago, Notebook check surprised us with news about Qualcomm’s latest SoC for midrange smartphones. At first, details were scarce, but now more information has emerged. Let’s explore the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.

Last year, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, and this year they jumped to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. It was quite unexpected because there was no 7+ Gen 1 or 7 Gen 2. So, the gap between Gen 1 and Gen 2 was significant.

That’s where the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 fits in, at least that’s what it seems like. According to Android Authority, it’s set to debut on the Redmi Note 13 Pro.

Performance:

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 uses a 4+4 big.LITTLE architecture with four Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four Cortex A55 cores at 1.95GHz. This is a strong setup for a midrange SoC and can achieve a score of 600,000 on AnTuTu.

Gaming:

Qualcomm hasn’t officially disclosed the GPU, but SoC-L suggests it’s an Adreno 710 GPU. While it’s not listed in known databases, it should perform well.

RAM and Storage:

This SoC supports LPDDR5 RAM with a maximum clock speed of 3200MHz and a maximum capacity of 12GB RAM. For storage, it supports UFS 3.1.

Cameras:

Like most upper midrange SoCs, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 supports up to 200MP cameras and can record 4K HDR video at 30fps. Some users find this camera capability a bit lacking for its class, but it’s worth noting that the 7 Gen series represents what the 730/720G used to be a few years ago. It also features an unnamed Spectra ISP for image and video processing, along with Qualcomm’s Hexagon DSP AI.

Network Connectivity:

This SoC is 5G-ready thanks to the Snapdragon X62 5G modem, supporting various 5G bands and older network generations. It also includes Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6E, NFC, and various GPS technologies.

Battery Life:

This SoC is built on a 4nm process (likely by Samsung), which promises solid battery life and should ensure some energy efficiency.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is a powerful upper midrange SoC that offers excellent performance for its class. It’s an exciting addition to the Qualcomm lineup for midrange smartphones.
