Hello to you. I’d like us to discuss the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G vs Redmi 15 5G. Both phones are the 5G version and I’m glad that 5G has finally become mainstream. So much so that lower mid-range phones with 5G are finally popping up in the lower end of the market.
The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is actually a lower mid-range device even though Samsung’s naming scheme says otherwise. In Samsung’s naming scheme, A1x phones are budget phones whilst A2x phones are lower mid-rangers. The Galaxy A17 5G was announced in August of 2025 and it quietly replaced the Galaxy A16 5G.
The Redmi 15 5G is also a new device as well and it announced in August of 2025 too. Just like the Galaxy A17 5G, it is also lower mid-range device and it replaces the Redmi 13 5G. This is because Xiaomi skipped the Redmi 14 generation.
So which phone’s the better one and which one should you be buying based on your needs and preferences?

Body
Both phones are built with plastic. This means that they both have plastic frames and plastic backs. The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is the smaller phone here, it is also lighter at 192g and has IP54 water splash and dust protection.
The Redmi 15 5G on the other hand is bigger. It is also heavier as it weighs 217g and it has better IP64 water splash and dust protection.
This one is a draw with a slight advantage to the Redmi 15.
Display
The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G ships with a 6.7″ 1080p Super AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate, 385ppi, 800 nits of brightness and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. This is rather impressive for a lower mid-range device that Samsung considers to be budget class.
The Redmi 15 on the other hand, uses a larger 6.9″ 1080p IPS-LCD with a 144Hz refresh rate, 374ppi, 700nits of brightness and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. This is also decent.
However, it is very clear that Samsung easily has the better display here, refresh rate not withstanding. The Galaxy A17 5G’s AMOLED display is more vibrant, sharper, brighter and better protection. The Redmi 15 5G’s display is not bad but it’s not as good as that of the A17 5G.
Operating System
The A15 5G uses Samsung’s proprietary One UI 7 which runs on Android 15. Samsung are promising 6 years of support for this device. The Redmi 15 5G on the other uses HyperOS 2 which runs on Android 15 as well. For support, you are guaranteed up to 3 years and that’s that.
Performance
This one is rather very tough. The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is powered by an Exynos 1330 whilst the Redmi 15 is equipped with a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. Both SoCs are very close in terms of performance with the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 scoring 453,000 on AnTuTu and 2,115 on GeekBench. The Exynos 1330 scores 439,000 on AnTuTu and 2,128 on GeekBench. It is that tight.
Given the fact that the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 was built by TSMC and should be better optimized by Qualcomm, I’ll go out on a limb and state that the 6s Gen 3 is the better SoC but only just. The margins are very slim.
Performance goes to the Redmi 15 5G.
Camera and Video
Both phones use a 50MP main camera but the Galaxy A17 5G has two extra cameras. One of them is a 5MP Ultrawide and the other one is a 2MP Macro camera. The Redmi 15 5G extra cameras includes a depth sensor and an auxiliary camera.
In front, the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G has the better 13MP selfie whilst the Redmi 15 5G has the weaker selfie (8MP). For video, both phones record 1080p video at 30fps from the main and selfie cameras.
Sound
Both phones use a single firing loudspeaker but the regular 3.5mm jack is completely absent.
Comms
The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G as the name suggests supports 5G, 4G, e-SIM, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC and USB C 2.0. The Redmi 15 5G also supports 5G and 4G as well but it lacks support for e-SIM. That not withstanding, it also supports WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, IR blaster and USB C 2.0.
Features
Both phones support Fingerprint (side-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, light and proximity sensor, compass etc.
Battery and Charging
The Redmi 15 5G is the easy winner here with a 7000mAh battery with 33W of fast charge. The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G has a smaller 5000mAh battery with 25W of fast charge.
Price
The Redmi 15 5G appears to be the more costlier device between these two. Its price starts at $250 whilst the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G starts at $212.
So let’s tally our points
- Body: Draw
- Display: Galaxy A17 5G
- OS: Draw (slight advantage to A17)
- Performance: Redmi 15 5G
- Camera/Video: Draw (A17 slightly)
- Sound: Draw
- Comms: Galaxy A17 5G (e-SIM)

- Battery/Charging: Redmi 15 5G

Verdict
If you’re looking for a phone with an AMOLED and e-SIM, the Galaxy A17 5G is the device for you. However, if you’re looking for a device with a strong performance, bigger batteries and faster charging, then I’ll point you in the direction of the Redmi 15 5G.
Both devices are very okay mid-range devices and you won’t go wrong any of them.
