Unisoc T7255 – A rebranded T616

The entry-level and budget SoC segment is a brutal arena, where OEMs fight to squeeze out every drop of value from old silicon. Nowadays, names may change, but specs often don’t. The newly minted Unisoc T7255 is Unisoc’s latest offering in this game — but behind the fresh branding lies a very familiar face. If you’re getting déjà vu, you’re not alone.

Unisoc is rebranding its SoCs

Introducing the Unisoc T7255

The Unisoc Tiger T7255 is a budget-tier SoC announced by Unisoc in 2024 as part of its Tiger lineup. It targets low-cost smartphones, aiming to offer decent day-to-day performance. However, when you dig deeper, you’ll find that the Tiger T7255 is not a new SoC — it’s a rebranded Unisoc T616, which itself is built on the aging 12nm process node. This makes it the third chip in this “T6xx rebadge” wave, after the T7200 (T606), T7225 (T612) and T7250 (T615).

Chips like the Tiger T7255 tend to show up in affordable phones from brands such as Itel, Lava, or even some Realme and Infinix models in emerging markets.

Performance

In terms of CPU, the Tiger T7255 continues to rely on the tried-and-tested combination of 2x Cortex A75 and 6x Cortex A55 cores. The A75 cores now clock up to 2.0GHz, which is a modest upgrade over previous Tiger chips, but it is still a budget processor. In terms of performance and benchmarks, you can expect AnTuTu scores in the 250,000–270,000 range, which is squarely within budget-tier territory.

The GPU, the Mali-G57 MP1, is clocked at 850MHz. While this isn’t the fastest configuration for this GPU, it should handle basic 2D/3D rendering and light gaming reasonably well. Games like PUBG, Call of Duty Mobile, eFootball Mobile, and Asphalt 9 on mid-low settings should be playable. Anything heavier will cause this GPU to struggle.

Support for LPDDR4X RAM at 1866MHz and UFS 2.2 storage is a major positive. This means that app loading times and multitasking will feel responsive for everyday users — as long as the RAM size (ideally 6GB or more) is decent.

Display Handling

The T7255 supports Full HD (1080p) displays at 60Hz, which is fairly standard for this segment. While 90Hz or 120Hz would have been nice, the GPU likely couldn’t keep up anyway. Still, a 1080p panel at this price is nothing to scoff at, especially for content consumption and general UI clarity.

Camera and Video

Camera support sees a theoretical upgrade with up to 108MP sensors, but actual performance will depend on the ISP implementation and OEM optimization. In real-world usage, you can expect decent photos in good lighting, but low-light and HDR scenarios will expose the limitations of the hardware.

Video recording caps out at 1080p @ 60fps, which is still more than enough for most casual users and even content creators on a tight budget.

Communications

Communications are standard fare for a 2025 budget SoC. The 4G LTE Cat.7 modem ensures stable, though not blazing-fast, connectivity. There’s no 5G here, which might be a downside depending on your market, but many users still live in areas where 5G is either absent or unnecessary.

Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) round out the connectivity options, offering good enough wireless performance for audio, streaming, and file transfers.

Conclusion

The Unisoc Tiger T7255 is yet another example of Unisoc’s strategy of rebranding old chips with minor tweaks and fresh marketing. Underneath the updated name lies the Unisoc T616, a chip that’s now approaching the twilight of its useful shelf life.

Still, within its tier, the T7255 does offer a competent package: decent CPU performance, acceptable GPU support, modern RAM and storage, and a respectable feature set. It’s perfectly suited for budget devices under $120, but not much more.

If you’re a casual user who just needs WhatsApp, YouTube, and light gaming, the Unisoc Tiger T7255 will get the job done. Just don’t fall for the hype — we have seen this Tiger’s stripes before.
