Brawl Stars (A beginners Guide)

There are a lot of mobile games on Android. One of these is Brawl Stars made by the Finnish company, Super Cell.

Mobile games are fun and they are (somewhat) a great way to relax and enjoy yourself. Although sometimes I do find myself laughing or frowning at some ridiculous experience that I get during gaming.

Whilst there are a vast amount of games online, falling into different types of niches such as arcade, sports, MMORPG etc., I find myself loving Brawl Stars.

Brawl Stars is a 3v3 multiplayer and battle royale game made for mobile. It is fast-paced and highly competitive. It can be downloaded from PlayStore via this link.

If CoDM or PUBG mobile is too “try hard” or mainstream for you, then this is something you should try. It is built in a similar mould but it is a lot simpler and more light hearted. The matches are also shorter as well. Overall, it’s such a simple, fun game.

I can say that I am a decent Brawl Stars player with 40k+ trophies, who is fairly skilled. However, my skills could be a lot better but I’m not spending as much time as I’d have liked on the game. Let’s not even talk about my region/internet connection which is a whole nother topic by itself.

Brawl Stars: The beginners guide

Since this is a beginners guide I will be introducing some important terms,

Brawlers:

These are in-game characters that you control to fight against other players. There are a wide range of brawlers and each brawler has unique mechanics that they can use to face opponents. No two brawlers have the same weapons or attributes.

Brawl Stars

In total, there are currently 67 brawlers in the game and each brawler falls into some kind of rarity. The rarity determines how quickly you can unlock the brawlers. Since I have been playing for so long, I currently possess 65/67 of the brawlers. Very neat huh? You will be able to get more brawlers either by playing actively (like me) or spending actual real world money.

The rarity of the brawlers are:

  • rare
  • super rare
  • epic
  • mythic
  • legendary and
  • chromatic

These rarities are influenced by money and how long you play. These brawlers can also fall into categories such as: Tanks, Assassins, sharpshooters, damage dealers, throwers, support, hybrid, and control.

Tanks:

These deal high damage at close range and have high HP. Fast unload and reload speed. They can deal heavy burst damage up close but can be weak against sharpshooters and other damage dealers.

Assassins:

high damage, faster attack, decent HP, close to mid-range, high mobility. They are designed to eliminate their targets up close, reload and unload speeds can vary and they can be weak against tanks.

Sharpshooters:

normal to high damage, low HP, fast unload speed, long range. though they are weak against assassins they can counter them, they are weak in close combat and can counter damage dealers and control-type brawlers.

Damage dealers:

these are the types that can deal burst damage with a fairly decent movement, HP and reload speed. Throwers fall into this range.

Support:

these are the brawlers that can heal other brawlers in the game or can be used to play a support role, they don’t deal much damage and are somewhat low in HP depending on the brawler rarity.

Control:

these brawlers are capable of controlling a specific area and preventing access from enemy teams.

Hybrid:

as the name suggests, they can be used in two or more roles. As a tank, assassin, support or damage dealer.

Game modes

There are several other game modes in the game, including Gem Grab, Showdown, Heist, Brawl Ball, Volley brawl, Knockout and others. Players should learn a different goal and approach in each game style.

Brawl Stars

Gem Grab pits players against the opposite side as they battle to gather and hold onto gems, the team with the most gems wins after the countdown timer starts wins.

Players compete to be the last brawler standing in Showdown, a last-player-standing battle royale mode. In Heist, players must either assault or defend a safe, but in Brawl Ball, they must score goals.

Progression system

Brawl Stars also has a progression system where players can earn rewards and unlock new brawlers as they play. Players can also customize their brawlers with skins, gadgets, and star powers, all of which can enhance their abilities and give them an edge in battles.

The game also features a social aspect where players can join clubs and play together with friends and other players from around the world. Clubs can compete in weekly and monthly events to earn rewards and climb the leaderboards.

Game pass

The game features a game pass system that rewards players for playing and completing tasks within set times.

Terms you should know

There are some terms you also need to know when you decide to start playing, this is player comps for 3v3 modes, lines and lane during the 3 v 3 modes.

Brawlers counter and counter picks

This is very important in winning, gaining trophies and climbing the leaderboard. The best way to become good is to know what brawler to use in a specific game mode, how to win or defend your lane, how to dodge and deal damage and also you will discover that as you play your experience level increases. It’s a fun game to try when you have no other way to enjoy your leisure time.

There has been widespread praise from critics for Brawl Stars’ enjoyable gameplay, interesting game modes, and bright visuals. With a significant and devoted user community, it has emerged as one of the most well-liked mobile games around.

Some complaints

Yes, I do enjoy competing against real players all around the world and while sometimes it can be rewarding it can also be frustrating for the following reasons:

  1. Being paired with a bad player or random who doesn’t know how to play.
  2. Being paired with people of more experience against a team with better-skilled players. More often than not, you’ll lose and your teammates may express their disapproval by getting angry at you. That way, you know that you are the bad random.
  3. Even if you play well and they play badly then there are no worse situations than this.
  4. Distance from servers and overburdened servers etc.
