Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G vs Tecno Pova 5G

As 5G begins to spread around the world, companies have started to woo customers with their offerings. In today’s post, we’ll be looking at the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G vs the Tecno Pova 5G.

The Tecno Pova 5G is Tecno’s and Transsion’s first 5G phone. This is a big step up for the company. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is the second 5G midranger from Xiaomi. It follows in the footsteps of last year’s Redmi Note 10 5G.

Both phones will probably go head to head in the 5G upper midrange segment. It’s going to be the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G vs Tecno Pova 5G. Which one is the best option?

Body

Both phones have a plastic frame. The Pova 5G is the bigger but lighter phone at 196g. The RN11 Pro 5G is the smaller but slightly heavier device at 202g. The RN11 Pro 5G has a Gorilla glass 5 back and an IP53 rating which the Pova 5G lacks.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Pova 5G uses a Dimensity 900 5G SoC which is more powerful than the Snapdragon 695 on the RN11 Pro 5G.

The Pova 5G also uses a faster LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 memory compared to the LPDDR4x and UFS 2.1 on the RN11 Pro 5G. Both phones run Android 11 out of the box with their respective proprietary skins. The Pova 5G uses HiOS 8 while the RN 11 Pro 5G uses MIUI 13.

Having said all of this, in terms of performance, the Pova 5G is the better phone here. This can be seen on AnTuTu (v9) where the Pova 5G comes first with a score of 476,461 and the RN11 Pro comes second with a score of 405,256.

Display

The RN11 Pro 5G completely has a better display here. A 6.67″ FHD Super AMOLED panel made by Samsung. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch rate. It also has a brightness of 1200nits and is protected by GG5.

The Pova 5G comes second here with a huge 6.9″ IPS LCD that also supports 120Hz but has a slower 180Hz touch rate. it has no screen protection.

Camera

It is also a clean sweep in terms of cameras. The RN11 Pro 5G uses a flagship-grade 108MP Samsung HM2 main camera along with an 8MP Sony IMX355 (ultrawide) and a 2MP OmniVision OV02A10 (macro) camera.

The Pova 5G has a decent 50MP main camera on board as well but will struggle to match the RN11 Pro 5G. It also has 2MP and a QVGA camera.

Both phones use 16MP selfie cameras. Both phones also record video of 1080p which is quite surprising, because the Dimensity 900 should easily support 4K video.

Battery

The Tecno Pova 5G has the bigger battery here with a capacity of 6,000mAh. However, it only supports 18W fast charge. The RN11 Pro 5G has a battery capacity of 5,000mAh but it supports a whooping 67W of fast charge (0-100% under 50 mins).

Connectivity and Sensors

Both phones come with the usual connectivity and sensors such as 4G/5G, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, OTG, etc. There are also accelerometers, gyroscopes, proximity sensors, ambient light sensors, compass, etc.

For security, they both have side-mounted fingerprint sensors.

Both phones are tied for upload speeds but the Pova 5G is faster in terms of download speeds.

Prices

The RN11 Pro is the more expensive of the two selling at $329 (6/64GB), $349 (6/128GB), and $379 (8/128GB). The Pova 5G is the cheaper of the two at $353 (8/128GB).

Conclusion

This is the first time that a Tecno phone will be going head-to-head, and beating a Xiaomi device for CPU performance in the same class. This is a big deal. Big ups to Tecno for this one. The Tecno Pova 5G is focused purely on performance and 5G. If these are your primary needs, then get the Pova 5G. However, you should note that Mediatek SoCs lack optimization for ROM swapping, GCAM, and certain games.

However, if you want a better display, a better camera, and a better fast charge, then you should get the RN11 Pro 5G. It is the more rounded phone.
