Unboxing

In the box you’ll find: a 33W charger, a 3 ampere (3A) USB-C cord, a sim ejector tool, a clear plastic protective case, manuals, warranties and finally the phone itself.

Body

The Redmi Note 10 is built with a plastic frame, with the internals protected by Gorilla glass 3 both at the front and back. The Indian version however has polycarbonate on the back in place of glass. The phone weighs a solid 179g. It has an IP53 rating for splash (water) and dust protection. For additional protection, it ships with a plastic case in the box too.

Please note that splash protection is not the same as waterproofing. If you submerge this phone in any fluid for any reason, turn it off immediately and visit the nearest service center or dump it in a bag of rice or garri for 48 hours at least.

Display

The display on this phone is a 6.43” Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. This is going to be the first time that we are going to be seeing an AMOLED screen on a Redmi Note device. Goodbye LCDs. The display has a pixel density of 409ppi and can reach a maximum brightness of 1100nit. HDR10 for high definition streaming is unfortunately not supported and there is no Widevine support for Netflix here. The display is protected by a Gorilla glass 3.

SoC/Software/Performance

The RN10 has an all new Snapdragon 678 processor which is paired with an Adreno 612 GPU. It is an Octa core SoC with two Kryo 460 Gold (Cortex A76) cores running at 2.2GHz for the heavy tasks and six Kryo 360 Silver (Cortex A55) cores clocked at 1.8GHz for the light tasks. On the performance side of things, it does well enough. Its Geekbench 5.1 performance is 446 (single core) and 1416 (Multi core). On Antutu v8, it has a score of 225,000. This phone is quite capable of running most apps available but do not expect it to play Fortnite or Grid Auto Sport.

The phone ships with MIUI 12 based on Android 11. MIUI is packed full with useful features. Some of which are not found on stock Android. Ads can easily be disabled and bloatware can now be uninstalled. This device is also guaranteed at least one full Android update and two years of updates.

Memory

The RAM variant used here is a LPDDR4x RAM which would guarantee seamless multitasking and app switching. The Internal storage is a UFS 2.2. There is a dedicated SD card slot which can accept SD cards as high as 512GB.

Camera

For those who are photographically inclined, there is a quad camera set up on board with a 48MP Sony IMX582 Exmor RS main camera guaranteed to give excellent shots both day and night. It also shoots 4K video at 30fps. The other cameras are an 8MP Sony IMX355 Ultrawide angle, a 2MP GalaxyCore GCO2M1 macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is a 13MP Omnivision OV13B10 camera. As a bonus, this phone readily supports various GCam mods which will boost your photography. The RN10 also supports Gyro-Electronic Image Stabilization (Gyro-EIS). If you are looking for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) then you had better up your budget.

Battery

The battery is a huge 5000mAh and it supports 30W fast charging. This phone charges from 0% to 50% in 25 mins and from 0% to 100% in 74 mins. There is a 33W charger in the box to help you take advantage of the phone’s fast charging capabilities.

Connectivity/Sensors

This device is 4G LTE enabled and supports Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28 (a & b), 38, 40 and 41. It also supports Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 out of the box.

There is a side-mounted fingerprint for security which is rather strange considering that it has an AMOLED display. We can also find proximity sensors, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope and a notification LED. Finally, there is a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
