How To Improve Itel P55 5G Camera Performance

When I first picked up the Itel P55 5G, the camera output could be captured in only one word. It was simply “atrocious”. So let me show you how to improve Itel P55 5G camera performance.

Itel P55 5G’s Camera Hardware

The Itel P55 5G has three cameras. These are:

  • A 50MP main camera
  • An unnamed auxiliary sensor
  • A 8MP selfie camera

The 50MP camera on the Itel P55 5G is not a slouch neither is it generic. It is a Hynix Hi-5021Q sensor. SK Hynix is not a household name, that much is true, but the South Korean manufacturer does actually make good products.

Then let’s not forget that the Itel P55 5G comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 which has both:

  • A MediaTek Imagiq ISP
  • A MediaTek AI Processing Unit (APU)

Then there’s also the software to consider. Now this is where the Itel P55 5G tends to fall flat on it’s face.

The Problem

Itel generally doesn’t have great camera software. They also do not appear to have a good unified camera software system for all their phones. The Itel S24 Ultra does take some okay shots in great lighting but that’s the best of it.

The rest of Itel’s offerings usually produce poor images and below par video output. The unit that I had certainly started off that way.

The Solution

I thought that with all of the somewhat impressive hardware, the results ought to be much better. That being said, I decided to test a theory that I once taught here.

So for those who do not remember the theory, I’ll summarize it thus:

When you take a picture, the image captured will pass through a complicated process where it is processed by the ISP and APU before the final product emerges.

I also stated that the AI accelerators learned over time with repeated use, so the more you used them, the better they got.

I used the example of my Redmi Note 9 Pro which I had at the time. I would compare shots from my phone to those from other people who own the same RN9 Pro. The result is usually that my device would usually produce the better shots.

I spoke with my brother who uses the P55 5G, I’ve also been in contact with other people who I’m going to be using their pictures tonight. What I did was to encourage the guys to take lots of pictures with their phones and let’s see if the results improved.

No setting was changed and no editing was done. I would like to thank Osased for these pictures. They’re not mine. These shots are his properties.

How to improve Itel P55 5G camera performance is rather simple. Take lots of pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. When you think you’ve taken enough, take some more and see if it improves.

The only area where the camera would still underperform is if you decide to zoom in and go pixel peeping. But it’s only a 50MP camera. That’s to be expected.

I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures. Cheers.
