Which 2024 Flagship has the Best Sustained Performance

One of the many reasons people buy smartphones is for their performance. Smartphone performance is loosely defined as the ability of a smartphone to be able to apps and tasks. In this article, we’re going to be looking at which 2024 flagship has the best sustained performance.

Smartphone performance is not only about how fast a device can run, but also how long it can maintain that speed. Sustained performance is the measure of how well a smartphone can handle demanding tasks over a prolonged period of time without overheating, throttling, or draining the battery.

Which 2024 Flagship has the Best Sustained Performance: The Test

Gary (of Gary Explains), a trusted tech analyst, put five of the latest flagship smartphones to the test to compare their sustained performance. The devices were:

He ran three different benchmarks on each device: Wildlife Stress Test, Wildlife Stress Test Extreme, and Ray Tracing Test. He recorded the scores and the battery levels of each device during each run.

Wildlife Stress Test

In this rigorous evaluation, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 showcased superior peak and sustained performance whilst being easy on its battery. The Exynos 2400 and Dimensity 9300 exhibited similar peak performances; however, stability was where Exynos 2400 took the lead. It ran very smoothly whilst the Dimensity 9300 was all over the place. Apple’s A17 doesn’t not have the same peak performance as the aforementioned trio but it maintains a steady performance and even ends up out performing the Dimensity 9300. The Tensor G3 was very stable but lagged in overall performance because it is not as powerful as the other SoCs.

2024 Flagships sustained performance

Wildlife Extreme Stress Test

Just like with first test, a repeated pattern emerged where Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 maintained its dominance despite a drop in performance over time. The Dimensity 9300 showed promise but faltered midway, while Exynos 2400 displayed remarkable consistency. Apple’s A17 Pro had an initial dip but stabilized to outperform both the Exynos and Dimensity chips and finished in second place, just behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Ray Tracing Test

This test excluded Tensor G3 as it lacks Ray Tracing support. Here, the Exynos 2400 momentarily outshone Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but couldn’t hold its ground. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 recovered well and finished with a very high performance. Despite having the weakest peak performance, Apple’s A17 showcased remarkable stability post an initial drop. The Dimensity 9300 has the poorest sustained performance here and dropped off really early.

The Results

The results showed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was the clear winner in terms of both peak and sustained performance. It achieved the highest scores in all three tests and maintained a stable performance throughout.

The Exynos 2400 was the runner-up, as it showed a consistent performance in all three tests. It was slightly behind the Snapdragon in terms of peak performance, but it was more efficient in terms of battery usage.

The Apple A17 Pro was the third-best performer, as it had a stable performance after an initial drop in the first two tests. It also had the lowest peak performance in the Ray Tracing Test, but it was able to keep up with the other devices.

The Dimensity 9300 was the fourth-best performer, as it had a decent peak performance in the first two tests, but it suffered from a significant drop in the third test. It also had a very unstable performance, as it fluctuated a lot during the runs.

The Tensor G3 was the worst performer, as it had the lowest peak performance and the lowest sustained performance in all three tests. It also did not support Ray Tracing, which limited its capabilities.

The Conclusion

Based on Gary’s reliable analysis, we can conclude that the Samsung Galaxy S24+ (as well as other phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) is the best smartphone for sustained performance in 2024. It offers the fastest and the most stable performance among the flagships. The Samsung Galaxy S24 with the Exynos 2400 is a close second, as it offers a consistent and efficient performance. The iPhone 15 Pro (Apple A17 Pro) is a good choice for those who value stability over speed.

The Vivo X100 Pro (Dimensity 9300) and the Google Pixel 8 Pro (Tensor G3) finish a distant third and fourth place. The Vivo X100 Pro offers great peak performance but doesn’t maintain it for long. Whether it’s due to heating or poor optimization, it’s impressive peak performance soon falls off. The Pixel 8 pro on the other hand does not have a great peak performance. It has the weakest performance amongst all of 2024’s flagships which is its weakness but it is very stable.

I believe that this information is key for those who want a smooth and long-lasting performance. Do with information as you will.
