Redmi 12C vs Redmi 10C

Hello and welcome to another post. In this post we are going to be having the Redmi 12C vs Redmi 10C comparison.

With the release of the Redmi 12C, some people have begun to compare it with the older Redmi 10C and have wondered which one is better.

I intend to have the specs of both phones go head to head so that you can be able to tell which one is better.

Redmi 12C

The Redmi 12C is a budget phone that is designed to offer good enough processor performance and okay cameras. There’s also decent battery life in there.

Redmi 10C

The Redmi 10C on the other hand, whilst being a budget phone, is a stripped down version of the Redmi Note 11 so the performance and cameras here are lower midrange class. The battery life is also impeccable.

Redmi 12C vs Redmi 10C

We’re going to be pitting the Redmi 12C vs Redmi 10C based on the following parameters.

1. Performance (SoC, GPU, RAM)
2. Display
3. Cameras
4. Battery and charging
5. Network connectivity
6. Pricing

Performance

The SoC on the 12C is the MediaTek Helio G85 whilst the one on the 10C is the Snapdragon 680.

Without mincing words, the 10C is superior in terms of performance (apps, games etc.) because the Snapdragon 680 is far better than the older Helio G85. You can see how much better the SD680 is over the G85 on the list of the top 100 Smartphone SoCs.

Considering how expensive the 10C has become, going with the G85 to keep prices down does make sense but there will be a trade-off in performance.

Display

This is absolutely a tie as both phones use identical displays. The display in question is a 6.71″ 720p IPS-LCD display with 286ppi and 60Hz refresh rate.

Cameras

Now whilst both phones use the same main camera (50MP Samsung JN1) and selfie cameras, the output varies greatly.

This is because both phones have different SoCs and as a result, different image signal processor (ISPs). These different ISPs means that both phones will process pictures and videos differently.

The ISP on the 10C is a lot superior and would output better looking pictures and videos when compared to the 12C.

Battery and charging

Both phones also share the same Li-Polymer 5000mAh battery but that’s where it stops.

The 12C will consume battery a lot faster than the 10C. This is mostly due to its SoC, the Helio G85. The G85 is built on an older and more power hungry 12nm Samsung process.

The 10C on the other hand, has a much cooler and battery efficient Snapdragon 680 SoC that is built on a 6nm TSMC process. As a result, the battery life on the 10C will benefit.

Charging speeds are also another area where the 10C does a lot better than the 12C. The 12C only supports a standard and admittedly slow 10W charge. This should take around 2 hours to satisfactorily charge the battery from 10% but the 10C on the other hand supports 18W Fast Charge. This should see the 10C topping up in way less time.

Network & connectivity

Both phones support 2G, 3G and 4G LTE but again, the 10C has better upload and download speeds due its much fast Cat. 13 modem which leaves the 12C’s Cat. 7 modem in the dust.

The 10C sports a USB-C connector for wired connections while the 12C has to settle for the now outdated micro-USB connector. Both connectors support USB 2.0.

Pricing

The older 10C starts from 98,900 Naira for the 4/64GB variant while the 12C starts from 85,000 Naira for the 4/64GB variant.

Summary and Conclusion

The older 10C is better at everything but it’s also costlier. The 12C is cheaper but it is effectively a downgrade. This post should serve as a warning to those people who rank phone on numbers that newer isn’t always better.
